2023 is the year I took over as organiser of the UK Tabletop Industry Networking group. I hadn’t planned on it becoming a large chunk of my work, but over the year it really ballooned – we’ve made a lot new friends, boothed at three conventions, and grown the following of our newsletter substantially. What I’d imagined as a side-gig I could spin to promote my games a bit has turned into something more substantial, and I’ve got lots of plans for how to keep expanding in the new year. Of course, that will demand even more of my time, and I’ll need to find a way to compensate myself for that. If I don’t, I’ll have to drop it – and no-one else will pick up this much work for free. I want to create something sustainable enough to outlast me.
Happily, I’m already receiving support from other volunteers, and the community seems enthusiastic about what TIN is doing and plans to do. So hopefully I can keep the momentum building.
In the meantime, I am still writing, though not as much as I’d like. Another thing I hope to change in the new year. Zine quest is looming, and it would be good experience to have a go at running my first Kickstarter, if I can be ready in time.
Not a lot of new releases since last time either. Ulfenkarn for Soulbound came out, a moody gothic sandbox that I wrote equipment and a haunted mansion/dungeon for. I also wrote equipment for Champions of Death, so returning to Shyish felt like… coming home. (Oh no.)
Besides that, my first Star Trek Adventures release has now come out (unless you count the three page adventure I wrote 5 years ago). Starfleet Academy is a pack of 10 one-page adventures, each completely standalone, but playable as a campaign that takes a young cadet through higher education to become a Starfleet Officer. This was a wonderful project to work on, and I was lucky enough to write a blog post about it for Modiphius, and to appear on Continuing Conversations to discuss it further. Watch out for more of my Star Trek content coming in the new year!
