Last year I produced a rules menu for the Cortex Prime RPG system – a breakdown of all the variant rules modules used by the game, in an digestible format, that GMs could print off and tick through to build their own personal ruleset. Since then, there have been two more versions of the beta released, so I’ve produced a new version of the rules menu to keep up with the changes.

Review of 2016
There are plenty of more socio-political aware blogs providing commentary on the atrocity that was 2016. I don’t have much to add to that, only to say that, even disregarding international events, personally this has been the worst year of my life.
I played some cool roleplaying games though š Continue reading
The Third Horsemen: Final Thoughts on the Dystopian Universe Beta
Disclaimer: This post concerns the beta version of an unreleased game. The commentary below may not reflect the contents of the gameās released version.
Evil Hat’s Dystopian Universe beta is now closed, and the last of my feedback is submitted. Bound as I am by ādisclosure pledgeā obligations, it’d be remiss of me not to conclude our campaign story, and provide one final bit of feedback. Continue reading
The Third Horseman: Initial Feedback for the Dystopian Universe Beta
Disclaimer: This post concerns the beta version of an unreleased game. The commentary below may not reflect the contents of the gameās released version.
A tsunami of post-it notes. That’s my stand-out memory from the first two sessions of the Dystopian Universe RPG. One of the players (or more than one, or less than one MAYBE I’M BLUFFING) ended up with a secret that required them to pass on notes to the GM, and I guess everyone wanted in on the act. Dystopian Universe Beta: Character Generation
Disclaimer: This post concerns the beta version of an unreleased game. The commentary below may not reflect the contents of the game’s released version.
Last week we had our character creation session for the Dystopian Universe RPG. Whilst we were missing a player, that didn’t prevent us cracking on with a systems overview and setting generation. Our fifth player, a Fate veteran, didn’t require quite the same level of education, and has now mostly confirmed what his character is going to be too. Continue reading
31 Days, 9 Worlds and 1 Dystopian Universe
August is over and normal life is restored. GenCon is already receding into memory. Dragonmeet is pencilled in as my next exciting RPG event, but that’s still a long way away. I’ve got plenty of ways to round off my year in gaming before then.
So what have I been up to since GenCon, and what is coming up? Here’s a round-up. Continue reading
War of Ashes Beta: Final Summary
The War of Ashes beta playtest comes to a close today.Ā Since the beta test began, I’ve run a session of character generation, a two-part adventure, and a one-off game that was essentially just one big combat to try out the new mechanics some more.Ā That’s given me plenty of time to enjoy what I like about the game, but also plenty of time to work out what I think needs work, and even suggest some changes of my own. Continue reading
War of Ashes Beta: Combat Concerns
I intimated in a previous postĀ that our playtest group encountered difficulties with the War of Ashes system, at least in the beta form that exists at the moment.Ā After running a second session, and having some time to think about it on the flight from Britain to America, I think Iām able to better put those concerns into words. Continue reading
War of Ashes Beta: After Action Analysis
I’ve had more time to think about the beta test session of War of Ashes I ran last week.
Lets start with the things I’m really liking. Continue reading
War of Ashes Character Sheets
I finally added the character sheets for the War of Ashes beta-test!Ā You can download them here.Ā I might add NPCs later, but as I mentioned in my Adventure Creation, I wrote up an awful lot of them.Ā I might also add a bit of flavour text for each character, but that sounds like effort, and is therefore undesirable.
