As I write this I am waiting for the taxi that will take me to Heathrow Airport. From there, it’s all aboard the plane that will take me on my first ever visit to America – and my first ever visit to GenCon.
Having never attended before, I have very little idea of what I can expect for gaming opportunities, so my bags are overloaded with RPG books I’ll probably get little opportunity to use. In the end, Savage Worlds, Leverage, Gaean Reach, Monsterhearts and Saga of the Icelanders made the cut, alongside the Paranoia: High Programmers book I’ll need for my prescheduled game, and laptop filled with roleplaying PDFs. Hopefully I have enough space to bring back everything I want from the convention…
If I get the chance, I hope to run War of Ashes for other convention goers, assuming that impromptu unscheduled games are indeed things that happen at GenCon. I feel like getting a view of the game from people outside my main playtest group would be useful, even better if they’re people I don’t know at all.
I also hope to get a chance to update this blog whilst I’m away to let people know what I’m getting up to – but again, having never been before, I don’t know how busy I’ll be. At a minimum, let’s all agree to meet up at the end, where we can all share our feelings.
Hope to see you there!
