2023-so-far Roundup

At time of writing I’m enjoying a brief respite between attending MCM London Comic Con and UK Games Expo on back to back weekends. This just three weeks after getting married, and two weeks after getting back from my honeymoon. And two days after the Succession finale. What a month!

What’s Been Released

Lots to catch up on here:

  • I entered Jess Marcrum’s Buddy System Jam with a game called Field Trip, because that’s the first thing I thought of when I heard the name “Buddy System”. It’s about rascally kids thwarting a nefarious museum heist, with Home Alone meets Scooby Do meets Night at the Museum vibes. Very cute, family-friendly, a suitable penance for all the horrible things that happen to children in Crying Wolf. Huge thanks to the kids at Laureate Community Academy for their amazing playtester feedback!
  • I also wrote an even smaller game, this one just two A4 pages, mostly just to prove to myself that I could. This one’s called PolyTheist, and at the moment it’s pay-what-you-want, so there’s no excuse not to download it and give it a skim. You are a Cleric in relationships with multiple gods. The gods claim they are ok with this. (The gods are not ok with this.)
  • The Imperium Maledictum Core Rulebook and Gamemaster’s Screen are both now on sale. I wrote for both of these, but I’ll be honest: I’m not sure a single word I wrote ended up in the finished versions of either (this game had a Significant Development Cycle). Still worth checking out if you’re jonesing for that Dark Heresy fix!
  • I had a much bigger contribution to Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay: Lustria, which is finally on sale, a cool 38 years after it was originally announced. I wrote the new careers, events, jungle expedition, and colony construction rules – lots of mechanical bits and pieces, just the way I like it. I’m not sure I’ve ever written for an RPG product as eagerly anticipated as this one, which was rewarding in ways I hadn’t expected. Happily, the supplement has not disappointed.
  • I wrote several dozen Aeldari statlines for Wrath and Glory: Threat Assessment: Xenos, hoping it would improve my chances of writing for the upcoming “Inheritance of Embers” Aeldari PC book. Watch this space…

Where I’m Going

UK Games Expo! Since last year, I’ve taken over as the organiser of the London Tabletop Industry Networking group – scheduling meetups, publishing the newsletter, and arranging our attendance at conventions. This is our first UKGE and I’m so proud of the table we’ve put together. I’ll be bringing everything from my itch.io store, but there will be plenty of other products also on sale – the most recent TIN email covers nearly all of them. If you’re going to the con, please come over and say hi. And if you’re not, pick up digital copies of our games, so you can still be part of the fun!

What I’m Looking Forward To

A rest? Not likely! I still have the third game in the Dark Aesop trilogy to put together, and freelance work for Warhammer and others. Most excitingly, it feels like the backer release of the One More Quest digital corebook is absolutely imminent, and I can’t wait to see what folks think of it. Lots and lots to do. Suits me down to the ground.
